"PORTRAITS 2" is a sequel to "PORTRAITS", an exhibition I curated and presented about 4 and a half years ago at WORKSOUND in SE Portland, following the closing of my SW 2nd location next to AUGEN GALLERY. The exhibition featured photographic portraits by 15 noted photographers and was held in honor of the late TERRY TOEDTEMEIER, beloved curator of photography at the PORTLAND ART MUSEUM, whose "portraits" of basalt formations in the Columbia Gorge were included in the show. About a year ago I encountered the amazing portraits of undocumented Haitians by Dominican photographer PEDRO FARIAS-NARDI at Blue Sky Gallery. I had the pleasure of spending most of the day with him, learning more about his work and life, showing him my current gallery at Pioneer Place next to PLACE and PEOPLE'S ART of PORTLAND, having lunch, and talking about how and when his work could be seen in my gallery as part of a portrait-themed group show. He was excited about it and through the cooperation of the amazing staff at Blue Sky, we are featuring 6 striking Farias-Nardi portraits from the "El Otro" ("The Other") series, along with portraits by other artists in diverse media (painting, prints, mixed media). If you check out the list of artists in this salon show, you will see some veterans and some new faces. So please join us and forward this to friends who may appreciate knowing about this special show.
